There’s been a bunch of talk about the YA industry plummeting to its fiery death (particularly in the UK) recently. Which, as a YA author writing in the UK, has honestly had me pretty disheartened. So, over on the social media feeds I decided we should have a UK YA revolution! The most popular books at the moment in the UK are US imports—they’re the ones who receive all the marketing. Don’t get me wrong I love some of the hyped YA books of the moment but there is a wealth of untapped homegrown talent we’re not reading.
Thus, over on Twitter I wrote a thread about my personal UK YA suggestions and it gathered a lot of suggestions from my followers too. As a result, I felt it would be a grand ol’ idea to compile them over here. A lot of these haven’t been read by yours truly but they all come highly recommended. (The unreleased ones are listed first with their expected publication month. Click on the titles to be taken to their Goodreads page.)
